Well clearly theres plenty of evidence of microbial organisms being able to survive. But sentient beings???? Unlikely, if you ask me. Look at the numbers. It took billions of years for sentient species to emerge on Earth. And even this under exceptional circumstances: the development and unique evolution of micobes into large organisms. Followed by an Asteroid hitting Earth and wiping out the dinosaurs so that more timid and defenseless animals like ape coul evolve into humans. You gotta admit, that happening on another planet is rather unlikely. Forget about actually inventing starships or radio signals that we can actually pick up.
Call me pessimistic, but i doubt we'll ever find sentient life forms :-(

Aliens :-)
I was reading the paper yesterday and i came across an intriguing article about aliens. It made me wonder the age old question once again: "Are we alone in the universe?"

imma have to agree with you there. but that makes us lonely. probably the reason why we keeping searching for something that doesnt exist. also noticed how most aliens are portrayed as violent human-race-wiping-out creatures? why that happen?
ReplyDeleteWe keep searching for them because humans always have that little glimmer of hope alive in their minds.
ReplyDeleteAs for the wipe out the human race thing, i would say we base the personality of the aliens according to the personality of humans, conciously or sub-conciously. We are a heavy resource consuming species and often drive them to extinction. Take this to a larger scale, apply it to aliens in space and you get doomsday aliens.
At the same time, there are humans amongst us who ar unrealistic optimists. They would be the ones behind "benign" aliens like ET.
Clarification: I meant we drive other species to extinction.
